Habi celebrated with World Environment Day of 2008 in Ras El Bar (English: Head of Land), Damietta. And that for the calling of the Protection of the Environment Committee for making the Center's Celebration there as a symbol of solidarity with the civil society of Damietta against the establishment of the fertilizer plant of "Agrium" in the tourist region Ras EL Bar, and from the perspective that Habi believes in to unite for facing these environmental violations and wasting our natural resources whether Nile water or natural gas in such these projects, as well, the right of a pure life in a suitable environmental atmosphere and safe environmental beaches. The Center liked the idea a lot, and celebrated with the World Environment Day in Ras El Bar with attending all the sects of Damietta's Governorate from youth, children, women, and NGOs representatives and unions and pretties representatives, as well as, the attending of more than 10 governorates representatives all over Egypt, such as; Aswan, Arish, Port Said, Swiss, Dakahlia, Behira, and Cairo. The Center was concerning a lot for attending representatives from children and youth from Cairo and Damietta and other governorates, as well, the presence of the Center for Egyptian Women's Legal Assistance (CEWLA) in Cairo, was clearly in action and obvious.
There was a several actions of the celebration, like, the speeches of the most important persons of the governorates, and children, youth, and women's expressions on their feelings and solidarity with Damietta's people against building and settling such these industries anywhere in their homeland, which became various among poetry, songs, speeches, and waving with signs and paintings against these industries, as well, an exhibition including publications and productions, and another one including; children's paintings expressing through on it the impacts of these industries on Human and Environment Health.
From the most actions in our celebrating day for this year was the protest march of children, youth, and the participants of the celebrations with holding balloons and palms branches which Damietta's governorate privileged with, and putting on their chests and foreheads mottos against these industries and on their way to the plant's area, and yelling against these investments and demands with their right of a clean and safe environment for living. That protest march in which security forces tried several times to stop it, but through negotiation and pressure they had reached the most nearest place to the project of Agrium's plant.
We tried this year through our World Environment Day to reach all people's voices with their differences in kind, religion, sects, and political associational, especially children and youth, all of them in one voice and one direction against these obvious abuses on the environment, in which, it is children and youth property.
