COURT CASE RESULT - OIL COMPANIES ORDERED TO STOP GAS FLARING IN NIGERIA

For general interest, the Federal Court in Nigeria has just declared unconstitutional the massive gas flaring by Shell in the Niger Delta. The Court found it violates the constitutional right to life and dignity.
Environmental and human rights lawyers around the world are very excited about it.

Habi Center for Environmental Rights is very pleased for the historical court order of the Federal High Court of Nigeria

The court ordered the shell petroleum development company to stop the gas flaring in the Niger Delta . this court order is also an example of positive and effective civil society participation . the case was brought to court through local communities and supported by Environmental Rights Action/Friends of The Earth Nigeria . without this cooperation and effective role of local communities and civil society , this court order would have not been issued .
